The expectation is that all these kids should be at exactly the same place in their learning and should all learn the same way. The reality is that there can be more than a year's difference in their physical ages and even more in their emotional ages. The more I read and learn about education, the more I think the model that we follow is outdated and ill-equipped to deal with such a diverse population of children.

Thanks for the comment!HynesMomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10918950206079506047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2353025631459641438.post-91048852129632541042012-07-25T08:46:01.266-05:002012-07-25T08:46:01.266-05:00My daughter is entering 5th grade this year also. ...My daughter is entering 5th grade this year also. We were lucky to have a fabulous 4th grade teacher but it was still a struggle as it was the 1st year any of the kids were really challenged. I'm hoping this yr will be better.

What I have noticed is that our public school does not seem able (or willing, I'm not sure which) to do anything other than teach in a 'one size fits all' manner. I wish there was a way to teach to each child's strengths. I'm sure there is, I just wish they'd do it!

I hope your son has a better 5th grade year. He deserves a good teacher.Debrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03179975836835123468noreply@blogger.com
